Re: Podolor tribute

Klas Fjellgren (surfites_64) - 26 Aug 2005 04:50:49

LOL, those bands who haven't yet managed to send in their photos and
bios should've been excluded!

Yes. Definitely.
I'm actually kind of leery about the project, because I think Podolor
is a very subtle, delicate, and brilliant guitarist. I'm worried about
the possible heavy handed approach the cover bands might do on his
songs. I hope I am pleasantly surprised.

Interesting. That's not at all the answer I got from Mel when I asked him
about this project's status a couple of months ago. He said everything was
ready to go and mastered (in fact, the mastering was completed quite awhile
back......Phil?) and he would hit it hard after a business trip back East.
After a couple of years, to say there are still bands that haven't sent in
their bios and photos is....well.....unbelievable.

The 2 CD set is pretty consistant and very good. Not everything of
course, but most bands do the songs justice and bring their own vision
to it. A couple of teh songs I would have liked more power for or more
finesse on, but I'm very pleased overall.

Mastering is done - many months ago. Artwork is inprocess. Mel asked me
to write liners, and I will email those to him in a day or two. The
artwork is in process - don't know exactly. Mel is hoping to go to
press in a few weeks.

It would be interesting to see a track/band list for the Podolor
tribute. Have such a list been posted somewhere? And speaking of
upcoming comps, there's also one titled "Big Wave Riders" that is
supposed to be out any day now, featuring bands from all over the world.

Thanks Phil, looks like it could be a great tribute. Also nice to see
that 4 of the 5 untitled demos are included (#1 is a big favourite of
mine).

Brian, Phil, all,
Like I had posted on Cowabunga awhile back.
When I had that meeting with Mel. He played me about half of the
songs, in an unmastered version, and I was very impressed.
I too thought some were a bit mild, and some a bit Heavy. But
Over all it's going to be a "MUST HAVE" additoin to your collection
for the really killer songs that are on it.
I find it to be kinda like the American Graffiti tribute cd that OM
OM records put out. for 2 cd's of mostly vocals it was pretty rough,
but for the 10 surf songs on it, it was a mush have, that and I got
it from PJ for 10 bucks, made it a sweet deal.
