This isn't %100 surf related, but it's something I found very
helpful. I have a 2000 AV Jaguar that came from Fender with a poorly
cut nut. Infact the A string is so deep that it buzzes on the first
fret when played open.
So I was talking with a friend who works on guitars and trying to find
time to bring it in for him to put a new nut on. He said to try super
glue mixed with baking soda. Sounds ridiculous, and I would never
have tried, but the nut on my guitar is "ok" except for the A string,
and seemed a shame to have to replace just for that string and be
without my guitar for a week or two. I also figured I couldn't f- - -
it up anymore than it already was. Sure enough, I used a little
baking soda, Krazy glue and then compressed it down in the slot with a
tooth pick. Once it dried I used a old string to run through the nut
to smoothen out the glue/baking soda. It's perfect, and I've been
told this can have lasting results. Maybe some of the older guys know
of this trick...but I still thought it might be worth passing along.
