Just a question to anyone and everyone who uses a Dan-echo delay...
Mine hisses like a snake in heat. Any clue on what I can do to get
rid of this?? I already use the AC adaptor, I've got the Hi-cut on
full and the "mix" knob is somewhere in the one or two o'clock
position, so I doubt I'm over-driving it...
Website claims it to be "Studio Quiet", but I've heard Echoplexes
with vintage 60's tape quieter than this.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Mine is super quiet, yours sounds like its messed up: Send it to Danelectro, its
a pain, they're very good about repairing their stuff, may just charge shipping.
Good luck!

The problem, in my case, was the adapter... as soon as I pull the plug
and put in a fresh battery, it sounds fine. Those suckers do eat
batteries though, and when the battery starts to die, your tone melts
into crap.

I have a dan-echo and it's the most quiet thing in my rig.
I had problems with both inputs, they're the same crappy PCB-part new fender
amps use. they gave more of a "crackle" though. (it's easily fixed by
jamming open the little black box and bending the contact-pieces back in
place.
I had hiss with the dan-echo before, a bit of a lame story..... Once during
a gig a friend came up to the stage with a tray of beer. Incidently she
tripped and spilled SEVEN beers into my pedal tray, which had 4 sides about
an inch high. My rig kept working fine, but we stopped obviously to clean it
up (I almost had a heartattack when the roadie imediatly stuck his hands in
the pedal tray! my adaptors were in there too, that's 220 volts here in
holland!)
anyway, the bosses i had in there have always been fine, but the dan-echo
started to hiss some time after that. I open it up and there was some messy
substance, i guess beer-and-dirt, all over the PCB.... i cleaned it and
after that it's been working fine.
Don't do it though if you still have waranty: opening the box yourself ends
the waranty
good luck, let us know what happened.
