Boy, it's tough to decided which version of Argosy I like better - they're both
way cool! For my own taste, a little less OD on the rhythm and backing guitars
would be nice, and it sounds like your playing the lead on the neck pickup of a
Fender guitar. I think the lead would come across more dramatically played on a
Strat in the middle-only pickup position.
Respectfully,

Wow Danny!
"Argosy"? Awesome song! The kinda song I'd be proud to have composed, a song
that stirs the emotions and feels full of imagery and texture. I'm tilting ever
so slightly in favor of the faster version. This would sound so cool with a
live drummer. Also, I think a cleaner rhythm section sound would be better,
with just a touch of OD on the lead guitar, and I'd take a slightly more
aggressive, biting sound for that lead as well, with a hint of echo/delay on it
- you'd have an epic song in the mode of "The Savage" as a result.
I lliked Demo #2 a lot also. The sound reminded me of some tunes by The
Kilauaeas, a German Surf Band. Your use of the Dick Dale - Misirlou rhythm
cadence in the middle was a wickedly effective touch!
You seem to have the knack for writing great instro songs - I hope you have a
band to help you to record and perform them, 'cause these are tunes that deserve
to be played and heard by others! Keep at it - songs with the quality of these
two, definitely suggest a tremendous talent!
Regards,

It is a cool song both ways. Maybe experiment with double picking
the verse in the fast
version. It's in key of A, right so you'd have the A string to go
off on. Get a nice driving
surf beat to go with it too. The organ is sweet and I like the
tremolo part too.

Hey Danny,
great tunes ! The faster version is a real cool floorshaker and the
slower one has some more exotic touch remindin me of The Huntigton
Cads "Go Exotic" sound. So, perhaps addin some Tremolo (or
vibraphone sounds) and a little bit percussion to the slower version
would give the song some more savage feel. But, hey I like both
versions, so why not record two versions of one song ? good stuff !!
keep on with the good work,
greetings,
daniel

Thanks for all the great responses regarding my new demo. I'm
overwhelmed with gratitude that you'd take the time to listen and
comment on them, and I'm especially pleased since everyone had positive
things to say. A few commented on my guitar tone being too distorted,
I agree. I'm still getting a handle on the recording process; although
these are just demos, and once I have a band they'll be rendered moot.
Speaking of which, I don't have a band yet, but I'm very involved in
forming one now. I have a bassist and a keyboardist who can double on
guitar, and several lines on some drummers and another guitar, so I
hope to have something very soon.
That being said, if any players out there in the Oakland area are
interested please contact me.
Last note, please feel free to check in on the link below, I've posted
a few more demo's, and will continue to do so.

hadn't had time to listen to this before, but it's awesome, what a
great song. did you happen to grow up in the eighties - very Cure-ish
melody (that actually is a compliment, coming from me) - keep the
fast one - with a surf drum behind it, its actually not that fast, on
the slow side of medium tempo i'd say. if you get to record it
properly, you can count me in for a cd!
btw, do you have the infrareds sounds of the darkroom? there is a
cure-ish melody on there too, forgot the title tho.
keep it up!

Thanks, Wannes,
I'm 39, so I think that put's me in the 80's, and yes I was a Cure
fan, but much more a DK's/Gang of Four/Buzzcocks/Clash/Powerpop fan.
But later on as I developed I had a band that was a hybrid style we
called "hard swing". Think East Bay Ray sitting in with Cap'n Beefheart
and Gene Krupa on drums - it was a bit "out there", but very satisfying
to be creating a unique (we felt) musical style. The melody of Argosy
started out in 6/8 swing time for possible use of that band, and the
melody stuck in my head so that years later trying to write some surf
tunes (in 4/4), it seemed to work.

The slow one was really cool, but I'm Loud-Fast-Rules
