Brian Setzer and Pipeline

Jacob Dobner (jacobdobner) - 16 Aug 2005 15:55:24

It appears Brian Setzer played his version of Pipeline last christmas
at a Brian Setzer Orchestra concert. The concert was filmed and is
going to be released as a DVD on October 18th. I know he owns a couple
of Reverb Tanks. I wonder if he brought them on tour with him.

I saw a Brian Setzer Orchestra show where they played "The James
Bond Theme," and it was an utterly experience incredible to hear
that song performed live, with both an electric guitar (Setzer's
Gretsch, of course) for the verses AND a full orchestra for the
choruses.
Of course many surf bands have played that one -- and played it well
-- but not with a full horn section for the dah-dah dah-daaaah
parts. I also heard a full symphony play it live once, but without
the cool John Barry Seven-sounding electric lead guitar. Such a
thrill to enjoy a live rendition that actually sounded just like a
movie soundtrack!

Setzer also does a killer version of Hawaii Five-O. I have a DVD with
him playing that. His Sleepwalk is incredible as well. It won a grammy
actually and deserved it.
