Re: [SurfGuitar101] Re: Fender amp, built-in Fender reverb? early Vibro Kings

John McCorvey (eddiekatcher) - 15 Aug 2005 05:29:33

Be careful of those early Vibro Kings. They seem to
have some reliability issues. However, one that has
seen extensive use has most likely been corrected
early on.....eddie k

The early Vibro King had a el84 driver tube for the
reverb, which was run at a voltage beyond the spec.
voltage the tube could handle. There is a fix for the
problem, a good tech shoud be able to figure it out.
Fender later changed to a 6v6 for a reverb driver.

Joe our other guitarist has a VK and the reverb has been sqealing
lately and feeding back. I'm thinking he's just going to 'spring' for
the outboard. I have a Dual Pro and I prefer the outboard 'cause I can
run it through the effects loop and it comes out a little cleaner that
way. The inboard serves as a nice back-up though.
