Detonators fabulous at the LA Zoo !!

Doug Forbes (Doug_Forbes1) - 14 Aug 2005 09:21:44

It's all happening at the Zoo with the Detonators !! We went and saw them
yesterday and you can still catch them today (Sunday) from 12 till' 3.
We parked for free and stood in the shade right by the entrance. The band is
inside about 50 feet away and sounded outstanding. So we watched them from
there for the first set. Just before the second set we asked the guy at the
turnstile if we could go talk to the band and he let us in for free for the
rest of the show and it was killer, all the great surf stuff plus a sampling
of surf-style pop and country.
The sound was really good especially the lead guitar. If you go and have an
interest in such things make sure to check out the lead guitar rig. He is
using some unusual equipment to get a really great lead sound.
Anyway check the lazoo.org site for directions and be prepared for a fun
afternoon, these guys have the surf spirit, that's for sure.

That's Rob Woolsey on the lead guitar for the Detonators, Doug. He is a great
player.
I have friends who work at College of the Crayons. What do you do there?

The Detonators (overhead_ted) - 15 Aug 2005 10:32:31

Doug,
Thanks for the kind words and yes, we had a blast. The Zoo was really good
to us (and the other bands that played this summer, I imagine as well: The
MiGs, Longboard Ranch, The Closet Surfers)
Regarding the strange rig Rob was using, he was trying out that tiny Crate
head people have been talking about. 150 watts of power in something the
size of a loaf of bread. Sounded great. Funny when the effects (reverb tank)
are physically bigger in size than the power amp!
Cheers,
Ted
