jaguars

mom_surfing - 07 Aug 2005 21:21:55

i've just returned from a week at national guitar workshop and am
obsessing about purchasing a jaguar. it appears to be my missing link
in the 'surf' sound. i already have a american strat and a prs custom
22 with a wide thin neck, which feels very similar to the strat. i
really like the way both of these feel in my hands. i don't live near
a population center where used stuff comes up and don't want to do the
ebay thing because i want to play before buying. i'm leaning towards
an american made reissue and would even be willing to order one and
patiently wait for it to be built (i waited 9 monthes for the prs) the
only store i've found to have one is three hours from me and they have
only one in stock........am i on the right track? should i be looking
at other options? from reading the many posts over these past few
months the jag seems to be the choice. imput and opinions greatly
appreciated to nudge me towards my decision to make a purchase,
thanks, carol

Carol,
From what I've seen, the American Jaguars are a cut above the Japanese
varieties. Just a
better feel and tone all around. I don't think you can go wrong with one. Since
you live not
far from a big city (as you say, less than half a day) it seems worthwhile to
call the shops
and try one or two. But, I don't think you will be disappointed ordering one in
the color of
your choice or buying a used one on eBay (it seems little different than
ordering one from
Fender, since you won't be able to try that one either). Either way, the AVRI is
a nice guitar,
one that measures up admirably with a vintage Jaguar. A friend bought a surf
green Jaguar
from Fender, and it was truly a wonderful player with authentic Jaguar sound.
Best of luck on getting a great guitar!
Gavin
