Ghastly Ones CD

Shawn Martin (drumuitar) - 07 Aug 2005 19:53:56

Just got the new Ghastly Ones cd. I haven't given it an indepth
listen yet but it's pretty good. A lot of the tunes are similar to
the stuff from "A Haunting We Will Go-Go", but they do a cool cover of
Cat On a Hot Foam Board and a 2005 remake of Haulin Hearse.

Life is short. Play for the music. Wear your heart on your sleeve.

So how does "Haulin Hearse 2005" compare to the original?

I've been out in the Northwoods the past 4 days, no TV, internet, or
phone. Now, that I'm back in civilization I found this CD waiting.
What a welcome back to civilization.
I'll have to agree with Shawn. Some of the songs sound similar to
the "A Haunting We Will Go-Go" Hell, it kinda starts the same.
Anyway, it's a great CD, all three guys are excellent musicians and
they are probably my favorite surf trio, and man do they have the
trio down. God damn, do I wish we could sound this full. One thing
I'd like to mention... so many trios have bass players that try to
make up for the lack of instruments and it ends up sounding awful.
This guy just "rumbles around" and fills in so well. Excellent
stuff.

-I was very disapointed with the swishy/swirling MP3 sound of it.
Hopefully they will re-record and release a real cd.
I know I'm Picking flyshit out of pepper, but I'm very critical of
what recodings sound like.
