Jeff (bigtikidude) - 04 Aug 2005 21:13:36

-Correct me if I'm wrong, But I seem to remember seeing a Rick with a
tremelo once in awhile.

They made some, but it's hard enough to keep a Rick in tune without
warbling the strings all around.
I'm not sure how their tremelo units work but semi hollow body Ricks
use a floating bridge. I'd imagine applying a tremelo to that design is
not easy to do. I've never played a Gretch so I'm not sure how their's
are made.

Spanky. When you say the Rick's are semi-hollow do you mean it in the
ES-335 sense? The creator of the guitar calls it a solid body guitar
with two hollow holes. Is there a big heavy block of wood in the body
of the guitar?

The early Rickenbacker's had Kauffman Vibrolas and the later ones
(early 60s) had Accent Vibratos. I think both are inferior to the
Bigsby. My Rickenbacker 330 came stock with a R tailpiece. I did a
lot to that guitar. Aside from adding a Bigsby, I made the pickup
selector cut out more bass(like to originals) and had custom made
roller saddles(what the older ones had, and work better with Bigsby)
put on it. It's still a beast to play.

I think they call it semi-hollow body because it's a pretty thin body.
I forgot gretch's or at least some of them have a block of wood running
through them. Rick does not. I've always liked Gretch, but like I said
my experience with them is basically nil.
