I have a Fender Twin and a Rat and a AV Jazzmaster but I am
struggling to get the exact sound I'm after on certain songs.
The sound is precisely heard on the Bambi Molesters' BOMBORA, and in
fact pretty much also on the Astronauts and Surfaris versions too.
It's not a million miles from Dick Dale's Miserlou sound, but subtly
different.
I can get reeeeeally close with the Rat turned down to almost minimum
distortion and the filter tweaked, but it's not quite there.
I can get closer by overdriving the pre-amp on the Twin with the
Rat's volume knob, but that screws up my clean sound as I have to
throttle back the volume on the twin to almost nothing.
I don't want to buy another amp as the twin is awesome and I am *so*
close.
The sound I'm looking for is that crackling, spitting, edge of mayhem
double picked buzz.
The Rat is closer than any other pedal I've tried including Tube
Screamers and Big Muffs, which are both too smooth. The Rat has a
sort of built-in nastiness BUT it is too tinny on the bridge pickup
and too -- I dunno -- cardboardy on the others.
What recipes taste good?
(NB my poor hamster has been suffering this week because the wife is
away and I've had the amp upstairs, cranked. I had to move him into
the kitchen but it's still pretty loud in there. I think his sleep
cycle is all ausgefuckert and he's mighty sick of Bombora).

Sounds like the hamster wants to kill the Rat!
