News For Impala Fans....

spskins - 02 Aug 2005 08:35:08

I have it on good authority (I work with the sax player) that Memphis
TN's own kings of surfy stripper sleaze and r&b are working on a new
release of their classic stuff from the 90s mixed with rare and
unreleased tracks. Hmmm I wonder where they got that idea? Whether or
not they'll be doing any new recordings is till up in the air. I'll
let y'all know when it will be coming out as soon as I know.

Jeff,
In no particular order:
Kings of the Strip
El Rancho Reverbo
Teenage Tupelo Soundtrack
Square Jungle
Play R&B Favorites
As far as 7" and comps go, Justin just rolled his eyes and said "I
can't remember all that s#&*, man!" He said he'll get me a track list
when it's ready indicating alternative takes, what it's taken from,
etc. It's still in the planning stages at this point. All for now
from Memphis. Death Week (Elvis)is coming....

Ted,
Thanks for the info, I thought I had everything, but I forgot
about hearing about that Teenage Tupelo Sndtrk. Do you know what is
on that? Similar to their other albums???

Jeff,
Well, it's a soundtrack to an independent film of the same name, so
the tracks have more conceptual space and have that "soundtracky"
atmospheric thing that you don't find as much on a regular release.
The instrumentation differs wildly from song to song as well. It's a
change from "here's 13 uptempo songs with 2 gtrs, drums, and bass".
There are 19 tracks, you can hear samples on amazon.com...The film
itself is being re-released for its 10th anniversary DVD. This album
is the only one where the ownership of the songs did not revert to the
band and they are presently owned by Sam Phillips' (Sun Records)
grandson, Johnny Phillips. Getting him to license the songs may be
like squeezing the proverbial blood from a turnip(it runs in the
family), but they're working on it.
Later,
Ted
