Hi El Steve,
Well, Agent Orange is pretty surf and punk too...
Not like the Kennedys although, but very surfy as well.
I guess you also will like the Apemen, no vocals but pretty punky played
surf stuff.
And, hey....No smaking around for you....The DK's are very good!!!
With Biafra ofcourse, not the new crap band with the new vocalist to
smak money out of peoples pockets!!!

I think The Cramps had a pretty surfy-punk vibe. Although most of
their songs are vocal, they kick it with a surf-type rhythm section
and reverby, twangy guitar work. Plus, their lyrics and song names are
a panic.

if that's about what your looking for also check out the tijuana bibles.
great live show too, and great website.
they also do an instro of the Cramps "what's inside a girl", under the title
"cual esta en una muchacha" or something like that.
if your looking for more cheesy surf punk check out The Travoltas (hey,
another Tilburg, Holland band) not my cup of tea, but very popular with the
skate-crowd.
still wondering about he DK-surf connection though?

I think The Cramps were a little more on the
rockabilly side. They coined the term "psychobilly",
but they were also extremely reverb drenched. Either
way, s'good stuff.
Agent Orange is good, I didn't know Mike Palm had a
side project.
The Dead Kennedys are of course the ultimate
surf/punk, but be careful what you buy. Try to get
used stuff from the Alternative Tentacles Label only.
Anything else (most of the crap you buy new now,
except for "Fresh Fruit...") has been pirated from
Jello. I think that label, run by the other band
members, is called "Decay" or "Dekay" records and they
use the DK's logo, so watch out.
And I like The Travoltas. :)
