Review: Knuckle Drager- Slam Bang Showdown!!! & The Atomic Mosquitos
S/T
I heard a lot of good buzz about these two disc so I decided to cough
up sum of my hard earned bread to see what they were all about. It's
good to see alot more bands doin' originals rather than hearing
Mr.Moto or Squad Car for the millionth time. Even though I love them
songs sometimes I think they should be retired.
I bought the first Knuckle Drager CD a year ago and I thought it was
just OK. I didn't dig the fact that I had to make all these
adjustments on my stereo to hear the record properly. It wasn't all
that bad though I was willin' to give these guys another chance. Slam
Bang Showdown!!! is WAY better than their previous disc. The best
song here for me is the opening track 1666. Lots of tremolo picking
in this one! Evil Rider and X-14 Skycycle I also dig as well. I liked
the song titles too! Crazy titles like Everyone In The Music Industry
Is Dumb! Mr.Teabaggin' & Twinkies With Machine Guns are too much! The
artwork by John Detrich I think IMHO is his best yet! I like this
group's attitude:Prankster with Devil May Care. A rock version of the
Phantom Surfers. If their 3rd disc is this good I'll buy it.
I first heard the Atomic Mosquitos on mp3.com and I thought they were
pretty good which prompted my to buy their CD. 100% of the time if I
download sumthin' and I really like it, I buy the CD. Support yer
local surf bands! See? File sharing ain't that bad Lars so quit yer
moaning and go buy sum Rogaine! The best song here is Mexican Jumping
Bean. I like it 'cause it's short & to the point-just like all surf
music should be. Other stand out tunes include Hang 'Em Low, C.A.S.T.
and Bone On The Nose. The playing here is quite good and I like the
use of the Theremin on the last two tracks of the CD.
If yer looking for all original surf music, look no further than
these two CD's. If there are more bands comin' up with their own
stuff then surf music will last certainly beyond the 21st Century!
These discs hold up pretty well over multiple listenings. They're
both graded A!
