Danelectro faux-tape-echo unit

John Brownlow (pinkheadedbug) - 28 Jul 2005 01:14:11

I just got one of the Danelectro Reel Echo pedals
I decided on this after monitoring ebay auctions for WEM copicats,
Echoplexes, Space Echos and realizing I was never going to find a
bargain. Having owned a Vox Continental Mk II organ, I know the pain
of trying to maintain this kind of stuff.
Bottom line: the pedal is terrific. The only thing better I've found
(apart from the real thing) is the Logic Audio tape-echo plug-in,
which sounds wonderful, but is not exactly a gigging solution.
Controls could not be simpler, 'Lo-fi' control affects the amount of
hf rolloff, incredibly nice. 'Warble' control is rubbish but who
cares. There are even stereo outputs (wet/dry). The bottom line is,
it sounds totally great and utterly different from other delay
pedals. Incredibly musical. You just roll of the hf on the echoes
until it doesn't fight with your main signal.
Top notch and a good price. It just works.

I have one of those too and really like it. Also looks cool at home
which can't be said about most other modern pedals (Yes, looks are
important!)

Same here, I got it after Phil Tiki from the Cocktail Preachers said it was
good. The only thing I don't like about it is that it brings down the volume
level, so I need to start thinking of getting another volume compensating pedal
, and putting it in a lopp with th echo unit.
I love the way it looks, too.
