Jazzmaster string balance

Brad Davis (tammibrad) - 26 Jul 2005 22:24:38

My wound G is a bit too quiet on my 63 JM...pu height is good, all other
strings sound pretty balanced, though high E and B get the award for being
slightly louder than all others.
Anyone else experience this?
Thanks,
-Brad

Brad, I'm sure you've checked this out. But, is the intonation
screw coming incontact with the string at all? I seem to remember
this being more of a problem on my Jaguars than my Jazzmaster.

Hmm...I don't believe so, but I'll check when I get home. Thanks.

Using D'Addario Flats, maybe 11/52? If so, I have the same problem with some of
the sets that I've put on my Jazzmasters. After using normally wound strings
with plain 3rds the wound flat third will always seem somewhat anemic...I've
actually removed the pickups and physically (and VERY carefully) pushed the
third string magnet up slightly to compenstate for this. However you can short
the pick up out if you're not careful and or lucky.....I've not trashed a pickup
yet but that doesn't mean it can't happen. NEVER try and move pole piece 1 or
6. Surf on Dudes, Edddie Katcher, Atlanta
Hmm...I don't believe so, but I'll check when I get home. Thanks.

Yes, exactly the set I use....but now my mind is at ease knowing that, at
least on this point, I'm not abnormal.....the stupid wound third actually
just started unraveling at the 14th fret 2nite...so here's an opporunity to
try somebody else's flatwounds. I'm also going to experiment with a plain
3rd, though I like the tone of the wounnd. Maybe I should also consider
12s..ouch...maybe not.
Thanks Eddie!

With a Jaguar, or Jazzmaster style bridge, be sure
that the strings do not hit the end of the intonation
screw while vibrating, or make contact with the back
of the bridge.
