Huntington Beach July 24 Show

hbseacliff - 25 Jul 2005 09:32:31

From the parking lot of The International Surfing Museum in Huntington
Beach..........
Amazing show. Amazing lineup. If you were not there, you missed it.
Some outstanding performances.
The Duotones Jam Session with Paul Johnson & Gil Orr
With guest musicians Matt Quilter, Rich Knight, plus
Detonators...Robert Woolsey
Insect Surfers...David Arnson
Surf Kings...Tom Stanton
Slacktones...Dave Wronski
Chantays.... Bob "Pipeline" Spickard
Who was the other guitar player from The Surfaris? Was that the most
kick ass Miserlou ever?
Rich Knight, you play some solid surf guitar.
Matt Quilter, "Pop, SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS, CHURCH KEY..........."
Need I say more? Good job dude.
Tom Stanton, you are smooth on the axe.
And Dave Wronski, you are not human because no human plays the guitar
that fast or that well.
This was a show we may not see again for a long long time if ever.

The surf historian that was sitting next to me said that was Dick
Dale's bass player. Sorry to say, I forgot his name.
I love Miserlou no matter who plays it. I recently collected all the
links I could find to Miserlou clips on the web... the orginal mid
east traditional, jazz, and surf. That's one of the tunes I try to get
around to playing everyday.

And p.s. - That was a great show! I especially liked the Mr. Moto
marathon!

That was Ron Eglit, who was with Dick Dale for 20 plus years, but now
Sam from Slacktone is Dick's Bass player.
It was an amazing day with all the Guest sit ins.
Most every body did at least acouple of their own tunes with the
Duo-Tones, and then at the end, it was a Jam on Mr. Moto,
with everybody standing in line( i.e. like at a Bathroom) to get to
plug in and do the vs. and chorus and solo of the song, then onto the
next guy. Some amazing stuff, for a song we've all heard a zillion
times.

Tiki Dude,
You are so right. How many times have we heard Mr. Moto? Hundreds of
times? A thousand? But the way they did that with everyone taking
their own rip at it was truely special. Those that were not there
really missed a special day. It was one of those shows that would
belong on that KOCE show "Great Performances."
And just when we think it can get any better, August 7th, 2005 - 11am
to 5pm
Bands:
POLLO DEL MAR...10:45 AM to 12 NOON
THE FABULOUS NOMADS...12 NOON to 1:15 PM
SLACKTONE...1:15 PM to 2:30 PM
BOARDWALKERS...2:30 PM to 3:45 PM
HALIBUTS...3:45 PM to 5:00 PM
At the Pier!
