Nice pics, Brian! Looks like the bands put on good shows. However, what
I often find disturbing when seeing recently taken pics from U.S.
venues is the ugly advertisment banners located behind the bands which
IMO really distracts the visual experience of a live show. Can't
remember these from when I played in California with the Daytonas in
the mid 90's. Is this a fairly new phenomenon or is it only the less
cool venues sporting this? (I wonder what would happen if the bands
demanded to have the banners removed or hang up their own cool looking
bandlogo backdrop prior to their set?).

Klas, yes I know exactly what you mean. We were not thrilled with the
backdrop either...especially the giant "PUNK ROCK NIGHT" banner. Not
every club/bar/venue does this however. Of all the places I've been
recently, the Melody Inn is the only place that comes to mind that has
this bad habit.
Satan's Pilgrims brought a giant banner with them and hung it up
behind them when we saw them. And I saw in your Daytonas photo you
guys did the same thing. It's a great idea.

Yes, nice photos. I think the drummer for The Surge looks like a young Benny
Hill. What a beautiful drum kit he has! In fact The Surge's whole collection of
gear is t'die for.
I was hopin' to see a good shot of Ivan's amp but it ain't there.

Less cool venues? Any venue having surf music is a cool venue! Most of the bars
have some kinda beer banners. The Hunington Beach pier and parking lot also has
banners promoting their summer concert series.

Marty, here are some examples of venues with great interior that
would be really cool for surf music shows :-)
