Re: Surf effects (Fuzzzzz)

Klas Fjellgren (surfites_64) - 22 Jul 2005 13:21:25

I also recently bought a FUZZbrite! Very pleased with it as it
provided the Davie Allan type of sounds I was looking for. Also have
a Maestro Fuzz-Tone reissue which have much less sustain but works
great for earlier 60's fuzz stuff like Hal Blaine's "Deuces, T's,
Roadsters and Drums" album.

I have a Maestro reissue too, it didn't really impress me though. What
guitar/amp do you get the best results using it with?
I believe the Maestro uses Germanium Transistors which from what I
hear don't work well when they are cold. I got mine in the winter and
haven't touched it since. Maybe I should dig it out and give it
another try now that it is painfully hot here.

The Maestro did sound a bit weak with my CIJ Jaguar but much better
with my CIJ Jazzmaster. Only played it at home on a solid state
Fender Champion 30. I think the total lack of sustain is very cool
although I also like the looooong sustain from the Fuzzbrite.
