Okay. I'm starting a new surf band in Colorado. So, I need the most
kickass name imaginable...and everyone gets to submit the best band
names they can think of! If I pick one, I'll think up some appropriate
prize. Then, I will announce the winner and the prize.
this is a good name for a band

I don't have any name suggestions at the moment that aren't stupid, but when you
do decide on a potential name, I can offer two suggestions:
1) make sure you can secure an internet domain name - every band needs a
website eventually & you might as well register a name now even if you're not
ready to build a website Just type the name into the address field of your
browser and see what comes up or just search here:
2) make sure no one is actively using your name already (that would suck).
Again, I would do a google search with the band name along with "music" or
"band" in the search field. Another good resource is the band registry
or the ultimate band list
Of course if someone is using a name, you can always add the word "original"
before your name, or put some roman numerals after it a la The Avengers VI, The
Hypnotic IV or The Saturn V
because you're from Colorado, I can only think of names with "snow" or "rocky
mountain" in the title - and of course RCA recording artists, The Astronauts
(formerly known as The Stormtroopers) - the best musical export ever to emerge
from Boulder.
good luck - and remember, you don't need a name to rehearse, write or record
music - that part only comes into play when you're ready to release the music,
or begin performing in earnest. The Nebulas already had 1/3 of our CD recorded
(affectionately labeled "surf demo" by our engineer) before we even picked a
name.

How about Supermarine? Just my two cents. Are you
guys in Boulder? I moved out of there three years
ago. Not a big surf scene, but I miss mountain biking
up near Lyons. Good luck,
pat

Shhh, it's supposed to be a secret. Colorado Springs. But it isn't
really a band yet, just the idea for one. I know a lot of the local
musicians, and am working on a surf band for the summer season.
Any name suggestions?

Well I have a huge list because someday I dream of starting a band
too. Good luck on that.
You could always do something like this. Make two columns, say column
A and column B. Then pick one random word from column A, and then
another random word from column B to get your band name. Like this:
(I hope the formatting doesn't get messed up here when I post this...)
Column A: Column B:
Vibro- Kings
Aqua- Nuts
The Original Boarders
Reverbo- Gremmies
Surf Surfaris
...
(add about 20 more entries)
...
etc, etc.
