Man or Astroman's cover of "Out of Limits"

Richard (errant_jedi) - 19 Jul 2005 14:00:14

Was MoAM's version of "Out of Limits" available on any
albums or comps? The single is out of print and
pretty expensive and that's the only place I can find
it.

Yeah, "Out of Limits" is included on INTRAVENOUS TELEVISION
CONTINUUM, but I'm pretty sure even that disc is outa print now.
Still, though, it oughta be easier to find (and cheaper) than buying
a rare 7" vinyl single.
Good luck!
BTW, Anybody else here own a copy of MoAM's odd little 7" release
called "UFOs and the Men Who Fly Them"?

Gregory,
You mean the one with the niffty little pop out paper flying
saucer. Got it!
How about the littel 5 in. Polaris single? (hard to play on some
turntables be cause the needle picks up and goes back)
With the help of somebody on cowabunga( I think)
I have about 20 or so singles of Man or Astroman.
Does anybody know how many they really put out?
Is the dicography on their website pretty acurate?
I still think their best cd was "What Remains Inside A Black Hole"
Even though it was a clollection of singles, it just flows really well
and rocks damn hard, and is a Great introduction to their early
style.

I've got UFO's and The Men Who Fly Them. I used to
work at a Belk department store here in Athens with
Randy Bewley from the band Pylon. We were talking
about music, like we always did, and MoAM came up.
Turns out that Italian Movie Theme from that 7" is one
of Randy's/Pylon's songs. I keep meaning to get him
to sign it.

Richard,
You can't guess how big a smile I cracked at seeing a reference to
Pylon on here on SurfGuitar101! Man oh man, how I loved that band. I
bought their first single the week it came out back in the
late '70s. I believe "Italian Movie Theme" was an instro on their
first full-length LP which came along a year or so later. (If I
recall right, Pylon released a 10" vinyl EP in between.) I'll be
seeing Pylon again live at the end of this month, for the first time
in more than 10 years. A pal of mine still owns one of the actual
Link Wray-lookin' Supro guitars that Randy used to play in Pylon,
back in the day.
As for UFOS AND THE MEN WHO FLY THEM, I was tickled to see posts by
other folks who owned the disc and had assembled the punch-out toy
flying saucer that came with it. I wanted to keep mine pristine and
thus never put the saucer together. <sigh> Wish I'd thought to buy
two of the darn things....
BTW, Are you planning to go see The Surge tonight? I can't make it --
will be stuck home finishing up some magazine articles that are
already past deadline.

Gosh, we'll have to ask Moon Dawg about that. He's the only one I can
think of (outside the band members) who might have a full and
complete
set....

Hey Gregory, if you live in Georgia then you'll
definitely be getting the opportunity to see Pylon
soon as they're starting to gig again. I don't know
if it's permanent but they've played more shows in the
last few months than they have in five years. I
caught their first reunion show last year at an
unknown bar here in Athen and was stoked, as I'd never
heard them before. Then I caught the New Year's show
at the 40 Watt. It's funny, I got to know Randy at
work for months before realizing that he even played.
I didn't know a thing about Pylon at the time. Randy
has such a cool guitar sound and really does kind of
have his own approach to playing, partly because of
his tuning. He didn't know how to tune a guitar when
he started playing, so he came up with A-D-G-C-E-E all
by himself. As for the Supro's, he's still playing
those, and I think has four of them. He's a
consummate gear nut so we always have fun talking
about weird guitars. He runs those through two 70's
Pro Reverbs.
I'm definitely going to catch The Surge tonight. I'll
be posting a review soon after.

Yes, the discography on the official website www.astroman.com is
pretty complete. There used to be an unofficial discography that
listed all the variations (vinyl colors, etc.), but clicking on the
link to that site now leads nowhere.
You could of course ask on the astro-list whether anybody there knows
of any additional releases:
