Anyone heard the new Big Boy Pete album? I've only heard a few of his
tracks, which are great but not too surfy, although I just read in an
email from him that this is reminscent of the Shadows.
"Bonney and Buzz"

For my tastes, the album is excellent: very mellow
guitars with Ventures, Shadows, and D. Eddy all mixed
together. You can tell these cats are veterans of the
era.

I haven't picked up the CD yet (will probably order this week), but
the Shig & Buzz CD is a nineties classic. And Bill Bonney is a
great instro bass player as well as a really cool dude. I had a
chance to meet him and see him play with the 'New Fentones' at
Shadowmania North America 2003 in Toronto (which is where he lives
now). They sounded really good, sporting white Fenders with
tortoishell guards (a more and more popular look, it seems).
Bonney's sixties band the Fentones were the real deal - one of my
very favorite sixties instro bands, though their output was very
limited (they only released two singles as an instrumental band,
though they also backed Shane Fenton on many hits - BTW, Shane
Fenton later became Gary Glitter, of "Rock'n'Roll Pt. 1" fame!!)
The only potential downside of the CD that I heard about is that all
the drums are played on a drum machine. But hopefully they did it
in an unobtrusive, subtle way.
