Exotics photos posted to this group

Gregory Nicoll (gregorynicoll) - 15 Jul 2005 11:32:46

I just posted two snapshots of The Exotics, taken during the Luau By
The Lake show in Chicago last weekend.
They're in the "Photos" section of this group's space on Yahoo.
The first picture shows the two guitarists sporting their shiny new
Eastwood Guitars copies of Mosrites (a gold one and a blue one), and
the other shot also shows the bassist with his Wilson Brothers
Mosrite
copy bass (bright red).
If I understand correctly, The Exotics' drummer is named Don Wilson
(same name as The Ventures' guitarist!) and the bassist is his
brother, so it's very appropriate that he's playing a "Wilson
Brothers" instrument.
I hope I've got all this right. If not, I'm sure Paul Wall of The
Exotics (who just joined this group) will sort it all out for us.

I *think* that these two brothers are also in the band "The
Nelsonics", a kind of surf/soul/spy combo. I saw them 2 years ago open
for Los Straitjackets, and they were also very entertaining.

I just checked out the photos in the folder labeled "Exotics". Excuse me, I
don't see so well anymore, is that the Ventures?

You're confusin' me, Marty.
I'm not sure where you're lookin' but I didn't put my two snapshots
in a "folder" labeled anything. They're floatin' loose by themselves
in the "Photos" section.

It was two snapshots in the photos folder (or section) and the pictures were
labeled "Exotics" or something like that. I just saw all them "Mosritey"
lookin' guitars and figured it had to be the Ventures ;-)

Thanks again, Gregory - Don Nelson is our drummer and he is not
related in any way to the bassist, Jon Ziegler. But they do own
houses right next door to each other.
That's pretty funny - they used to get kind of upset when people
thought they were brothers. Now they refer to each other as
brothers, heheh.
Brandt's guitar is "metallic blue" and my guitar is "butterscotch",
which my girlfriend has taken to calling me ever since I got it a
few weeks ago. Not sure if the nickname "Butterscotch" is any
better than "The Beatle".

Yeah, they're in the Nelsonics together. And yes, they are very
entertaining. Check out their new cd "Ruins of Rome" at
