Re: [SurfGuitar101] cheapo 12-string for surf (Danelectro?)

"...since the only competition is the Fender XII or a
Ricky..."
...Or the Danelectro Hodad 12-string...a fine jangly
electric 12-er...or a good old "Teisco" brand
12-string...if you can find one...

What's a matter JD, you don't think $36,800- isn't a steal for a '50's strat?

the funny thing is I was in a buying mood for a 12-string. I went to
all the stores on the Sunset Strip, including both Sam Ash, and none
of them had a single new 12-string electric in stock. The closest was
Guitar World which had a nice collection of 60s Rickys in the vintage
room, and Voltage which of course had some wonderful stuff, all
priced waaaaaay out of reach, and the attitude there is scary.
But not a single new one.
so I came back to my hotel room and browsed online and the chick rock
12-string just popped out at me. Then when I saw they had some B-
stock for $199 -- holy crap. I am the kind of person who throws a
guitar down the stairs before playing it just so I don't have to
handle it with kid gloves -- you can imagine my delight. Even after I
pay the shipping to Canada and the inevitable duties, what a fricken
deal.
You can now buy a new Fender XII for $699 but even so.
I do like pink. I am not sure about the oestrogen symbol on the
fretboard but hey.
there is a hilarious comment on the Guitar Player review about how it
is a 'studio guitar' which I think means he'd be too ashamed to play
it live but NOT ME.

I had the Dano Inuendo 12. For the price it was a fine 12 Stringer. I recently
sold it on Ebay after picking up a 2nd Mosrite Ventures XII. They are the best
electirc stringers I've played in terms of playability and construction. And as
vintage Mosrites go, they are a bargain (still out of range if your goal is
200-300 clams). They also don't have the classic Mosrite problems. The neck is a
bit wider to accomodate the extra strings. Yes, the frets are low and that would
be a problem if one is bending, but one doesn't bend much on a 12-stringer.
