Alot has been said about the kind of guitar for surf music. I would
have to say in my opinion a jazzmaster has the best surf tone however
I'm always on the lookout for others. Here are a few really surf
guitars I've found:
The new Highway 1 Stratocaster.Fender guitars are Surf!
The Yamaha SGV 800. A real Mosrite feel .Has a real strange shape
and a nice Tremolo setup.
Depinto guitars.Unlike Los Straitjackets,I have the Delvader Model
with a Bigsby on it. This is a highly recomended surf guitar.
The Italia Modena 2. This a new model for Italia and pretty hard to
get but the 7 month wait was worth it. The Modena 2 has p-90 style
pickups and a Wigsby tremolo system that has an ajustment wheel.you
don't have to take anything apart to adjust it This guitar has great
surf tone.
I've been part of this group for quite some time but I haven't ever
writen anything.Just thought I would throw in my 2 cents.I've learned
alot here. Not much Surf music fans to talk to here in Arvada.Maybe
some day I can get together with Bob. Bob ,you out there?

I would add the Italian made EKO 500-4 (my current fave from early
1960's), and the reissue/original Danelectros with the lipstick
pickups (Link Wray approved).

hey Maui from Arvada
when you said "Bob are you out there" did you mean me, Boulder Bob?
I think we have met. I am the lead guitarist for The Beloved
Invaders, Colorado's best surf band, compared to all the Colorado
based surf bands I've heard so far, and there aren't many (I'm
also quite modest). I also think you are on our mailing list.
so hopefully I'll see you soon at an upcoming gig (this Friday at the
Buffalo Rose in Golden)

I'm always looking for that real surf tone.I would have to say a
Jazzmaster would top the list of surf guitars. There are others that
really got the tone.Dipinto Galaxie custom with 4 single coils and a
switch for each one is a great choice.Lots of pickup combos.A Dipinto
Belvadeir with a Bigsby is another great pick.Yamaha SGV 800 another
good one.Italia Modina 2.This guitar is one of the coolest surf
guitars. It has P-90 style pickups that really kick.Kind of hard to
get in the states though.A Strat is good but I couldn't seem to get
what I was looking for till I put Seymour Duncan Antiquity 2's in
one.Another is a Dillion. The one that looks just like a
Mosrite.Sounds great and less exspensive.Gretsch6120 is not known as
a surf guitar but believe , It really can have great surf
tone.Anyway, there are my choices from the great surf wasteland
