DP, to start off go get a soft board and hit the beach. You will never
regret it. You will just end up spending more money on your new hobby for
summer time........ haha.

Monty:
Dude! I totally got a Doyle 10' softboard and an Oakley
wetsuit last summer...and I totally began surfing just last
year...I have only been surfing like 6 times so far...so,
I'm still a geek...but, you're right...it's the best! I
wanna hit the waves after the July 4 crowd
passes...Oceanside and Trestles are my destinations...and
maybe Jalama Beach up past Ventura.
stoked,

Dearest Goober,
I just wanted to let your land lubbing self know that you have been the key
support system for me to convert from guitar to bass and I think you are one
of the most lively characters in the group, despite the fact you don't own a
surf shop!!! :-)
Please do not correct this email and send it back to me!!!
Miles and miles of smiles, Rick!

Shores Beach in La Jolla is a good place to learn...nice easy beach break, goes
right and
left. No real line-up, as the waves shift their breaking points with the
movement of the
sand. You can always find a spot off, away from the crowds. Lots of gremmies,
Vals like
YOU, DP (do they still call them that?) and groms. Lots of longboarders. Lots of
soft
boards. Good parking lot...no parking meters or parking fees! And when you get
better,
you can move down the beach to Scripps Pier and, even farther, to the nude beach
at
Blacks!
And, most importantly for now, good lifeguards. Catch a wave...you'll be sitting
on top of
the world.
