Graph Tech Saddles

Brian Neal (xarxas) - 12 Nov 2002 20:41:54

Can't remember if this was mentioned here or not. Graph Tech makes
adjustable saddles for Jazzmaster/Jaguar/Mustangs. Single slot plus height
adjustment screws. Go here:
Saver
And then do a find in page for "Jazzmaster".
$40 a set. Anyone try these?

didn't try these, but i used to own a les paul (hey sorry, i sold it,
right?) which was equipped with graph tec saddles and nut. The dark grey so
called space material (the company also makes products with ther materials)
and i'm guessing this is the same stuff.
I thought it was really lousy, first it seriously affected the tone of he
guitar (less bright, a bit muddy i'd say), and second it was very soft
material, so the wound strings it left an imprint of the winding on the
saddles and nut, causing the strings to NOT glide smoothly but 'toinking'
over the little bumps. this problem might be less with another guitar: the
less paul has more pressure on nut and saddles i think.
it might save strings though, i never noticed since i change strings every
three weeks or so anyway. In any case, personnally i've opted for metal
saddles and a little sanding-paper every now and then.
don't want to put graph-tech down though. recently put a new nut on my
strat. i had the choice between the space-material and just white hard
(harder, i think) plastic. I chose the latter and it's perfect, it's graph
tech also, but it's definitly not the same stuff.
just my two cents,
wannes

I put them on my '59 JM, they come with height adj screws and springs
which seem better than stock, they moved around a little bit with
.011 D'Addario chromes so I put my buzz stop on and it minmized the
movement altough there is still a little bit of lateral movement.
The
guitar has more sustain and better tone that it's ever had. I used
to
break strings on the 3rd gig now I've played six gigs on the same set
and no breakage. some might say the guitar has less "Jazzmaster
character" than it used to, it's definitely less "plunky" (maybe
more due to the buzz stop) but it works for me! I say give 'em a try.
