Re: The Lively Ones ("Surf Rider" credits)

Klas Fjellgren (surfites_64) - 29 Jun 2005 03:34:30

The original 1963 Lively Ones "Surf Rider" album gives writing credits
for the song to Nokie Edwards on the backcover.

I heard somewhere that when the Lively Ones covered it and changed the
title to "Surf Rider", they did not credit Nokie. It may be that they
didn't print writing credits for any songs on those old albums and with
the changing of the title, it appeared that the Lively Ones were taking
the tune as their own.

Ok. They also released it as a single. Blair's book doesn't say anything about
the single being mis-credited.

okay, so it just came to me that LO's surf rider version is on the
pulp fiction cd, and I wondered whether they got the credits right.
Not having that cd here, I googled "pulp fiction cd credits" and
this popped up on :
"Surf Rider"
Written by Bob Bogle, Nole Edwards, Don Wilson
Performed by The Lively Ones
Courtesy of Del-Fi Records Inc.
By Arrangement with Rhino Records
never knew his real name was Nole. anyway, they credit boggle and
wilson as well. writting reality, or copyrights reality?
Don't know how it is credited on the actual cd though - this is from
the internet.

Copyright reality. Bob and Don bought the publishing rights.

The Del-Fi single (light green labels and classic Del-Fi label) both
credit Edwards.
