I've been playing along to Satan's Pilgrims "Around The World With..." and
they cover The Ventures "Ginza Lights". Can anyone tell me what Ventures
album this appears on? I'd like to hear the original. I've got most of it
tabbed out...it rocks!
Thanks,
BN
Its on "Go With The Ventures" Side A, Track 2. Also features covers of
Eight Miles High, Sloop John B, These Boots Are Made for Walking &
Califronia Dreamin' Produced by Joe Saraceno of The Marketts fame.
Mosrites were used exclusively during this period.
On the Two-fer-one CD version, the album is combined with the "Batman Theme"
album, home to such hits as Joker's Wild, The Man from UNCLE, Hot Line &
Vampcamp. Pretty much a "must-have" for only $9.99

Thanks Jim. That two-fer CD sounds like a must get.

I took your suggestion tfj and picked up the two-fer Ventures CD "Go With..
/ Batman Theme" (I love half.com!!).
The Ventures version of Ginza Lights is much more delicate and Venturey, of
course. Satan's Pilgrims turned it into something mean and rocking. Both
versions are cool.
Man or Astro-Man? definitely cut their teeth on the Batman Theme album; they
cover Joker's Wild and Man from U.N.C.L.E. (affectionately titled Man from
F.U.C.K.Y.O.U. on their live CD - I love that).
Buying a Ventures CD is always a mixed bag for me. There is really great
stuff mixed in with some odd covers. Either those Ventures guys really loved
all kinds of music or they really wanted to keep their careers in the music
business. Probably a little of both. Case in point: The dubiously titled
"bonus" track "Superstar Revue (disco version)". YIKES!!
Overall, as you said, a great value for the price. And in any event, The
Ventures are cool in my book.

This perhaps came off a little too harsh. There is very little not to
like about this two-fer CD. There are a couple of surfy-numbers, but
the rest are top notch instros done in that classic Ventures style.
Good stuff!!
I also have The Ventures tribute CD "Swinging Creepers" from MuSick
records. Its very good too. The Space Cossack's Journey to the Stars
cover is just one of the highlights on that disc. It also features
The Bomboras, The Fathoms, The Boss Martians, Davie Allan, Jon & The
Nightriders, The Volcanos, Satan's Pilgrims, The Sir Finks, The
Penetrators and probably a bunch I am forgetting.
Anyone else got a favorite Ventures CD? The "Play Telstar / Ventures
In Space" is also a good one.

they put out some crazy stuff especially in the late 70s and through
the eighties. there ska'd out version of ginza lights is pretty good
imo.
p.s. this is a cool site to check out if you dont have the money to
buy the millions of records they put out.
