Hi everybody!
I'm Dacho from Argentina, I play in a surf band called The
Tormentos, we're pretty excited 'cause these saturday we will
play with The Phantom Surfers (the first US surf band that played
here EVER!).
Well, I got a question for you guys:
I want to change my CIJ pups for a seymour duncan vintage or a
fender american vintage, anyone can tell me wich one is better
or the difference betwen them?
Thanks
Hope someone can help me!
Hi,
I changed my MIJ Pick ups with Seymour Duncan Antiquity I and I must say
they are quiet an improvement over the MIJ stock pick ups.
However there are differences between the various Seymour Duncan Pick
ups for Jazzmasters.
The Antiquity I's are suppose to sound like old pick ups. So they are
aged qua sound. The tag says "as if these pick ups withstand 40 years of
cigarette smoke filled clubs".
Their sound is rich, but a bit dark. They have a certain "growl" in
them. So more mid, less treble and bass. They Have Alcino II magnets,
which are also aged.
The Antiquity II's sound different, More bass and treble and less rich.
A terrific clean sound. These Have Alcino V magnets and more expensive
then the Alcino II's . They should sound like original Jazzmaster pick
ups in the early sixties.
Then there are the Fender Jazzmaster pick ups as they come with their
re-issues. These have the typical Ventures sound and sound different
from the previous two.
I have played on all three of them and all sound different. If you want
to go for a clean sounding surf guitar, I would advise on the Antiquity
II's or the Fender pick-ups. If you like the darker sound, go for the
Antiquity I's.
All will depend on the money you want to spend and the amp you use.
If you can try them out, before purchasing them.
Hope this helps,
Jerry S. from Belgium "The Ohmmen"
