Re: [SurfGuitar101] Re: DICK, is the King of the Surf Guitar whether or not he wants to own up to it.

Marty Tippens (mctippens) - 24 Jun 2005 22:54:06

Well yes, who in their right mind would talk smack about Dusty? But I wouldn't
have a different point of view about Dick if he did because I take anything Dick
says with a major grain of salt and I'd figure Dick was hurt by Dusty's
departure.
So we both think Dick is a great player and we both realize he has ego issues.
The difference between our POV's is similar to the difference between the
optimist and pesimist. One can think of Dick first for his achievements and
rarely think about his social shortcomings or one can do the reverse.

Marty,
Don't get me wrong, I am blown away by the Player, just not
the person. If you were there at the Jim Pash bennefit, when he was
talking shit on Dusty I think you might have a different view too.
I'm one of the first people to aknowedge his( and leo's) Pioneering
of Bigger badder better amps, speakers, Reverb, etc, etc.
Many surf o philes dis regard this, or don't believe.
I've seen Dick probably about 30 times in 8 years. The only way I'll
see him now is if he's playing a free show somewhere. Or local surf
bands are opening for him.

Ok Marty, so we kinda see eye to eye on this(although I have to look
down a few inches)j/k of course :)
And I understand totally what you are saying. I've just come to the
point, where I'm not chomping on the bit to see him 4 or 5 times a
year like I used to. If it's once a year or 2, with other bands, then
fine, I'm not going to go up to him, and say all the shit I do here.
But I'm not going to go up and kiss his ass either. I just watch and
take it at face value, and leave after.
