Here's a CD that found its way into my collection that is pretty cool - it's
called SURF
LEGENDS (and Rumors): Rockin' Instrumentals 1961-64. It was released in 1995 by
Compact Classics Inc./Garland Records, and includes the bands The Surftones, The
Hustlers, The Rumblers, The Blazers, The Nevegans, The Ramblers, The Revels, &
The
Pastel Six. Most of these songs were released on Downey Records, some were never
released. Many are songs you've probably heard (Intoxica, Church Key, Cecilia
Ann, Beaver
Patrol), but a few like Twitchin' by the Pastel Six and Sound of Mecca by The
Blazers were
new to me.
I don't really have any commentary, other than to say I run through these 26
songs every
now and again and always enjoy listening to these less-than-polished surf
musicians.
Oddly, the cover art shows a surfer from the short board era of the 1970s!
