High school surf bands...

Johnston, Rick (ricknautica) - 23 Jun 2005 12:34:12

Howdy Hodads,
Last week I asked if anyone had heard of a band called, South Pacific,
because the name kind of sounded fimiliar. Well, last night I went to Zen
Sushi in Silver lake, CA as a favor for my sisters boss and saw his son in a
band of 15 year olds blasting awayat 3 DD songs and a bunch of 60's tunes.
The 2 guitarists used no reverb, but were quite active with a couple
different sounding Wa pedals. I was not overly impressed with the music,
but it was amazing to see how excited these guys were about Surf music. It
totally reminded me of what it must have been like for the originaters in
the early 60's. And yes, I'm going to contact them about this great
invention, called the Reverb tank!!! :D
Does anyone else know about any High school kids that are in to Surf
guitar???

They're not in high school anymore but the Sting Rays from San Clemente
kicked ass for 15-16 year old kids!

3 I can think of...
The Bananas (Slovenia)
Monster Pete and the Chiefs (Bay Area, now off to college)
The Shuttle Ducks (Bay Area, 14 and 11 + dad, who is slightly older)

One of the best bands from the 1st wave actually had members as young
as 13-14; The New Dimensions. Can't recommend their stuff enough! CD
still in print on Sundazed.
