Hi All,
Can anyone share their experiences using Thomastik-Infeld steel/nickel
flatwounds?

I had to buy them once while on tour because I ended
up with a bad batch of D'Addario Chromes. The
Thomastik strings had lower output, and did not have
as much low, and high frequency. They seemed to me to
be more suited for jazz.

I love em... First they aren't stainless like the D'Addarios or
Gibsons(which I had a brief affair with). They are nickel, and IMO
that's what I'm hearing on all the old surf records.
My favorite strings are the Pyramid Flatwound Gold 13s. But I wear
the G strings out to fast on those, and at 23 bucks a set that can
become an expensive habit real fast. I've got my Jaguars strung
with Thomastik 12s and 13s. Nickel strings are great because they
aren't as stiff as stainless, which means playing "lead guitar" is a
bit easier. Dave is right they are "jazz strings" but isn't that
what the off-set Fender's were designed for? With little reverb the
Thomastiks make a decent Joe Maphis sound... and that can't be bad.
