Re: Fender Reverb//ventures not a match

Jeff (bigtikidude) - 10 Jun 2005 18:38:10

-I'llprobably get lynched on this one.
But this is probably the main reason I'm not a huge Ventures Fan.
I do have 20 or so cd's and 4 or 5 albums. But I never listen to
them. Not that they aren't great musicians.
Just not what I'm looking for in a surf/instro band.
sorry no offense I hope.
p.s. I do listen to the Swinging Creepers tribute a bit
songs sound nice with Reverb :-)

I'll probably get lynched for lynching you, Big T but...not a huge Ventures
fan? Blasphemy!!! The surf world is a much better place with "Journey to the
Stars", "Yellow Jacket", "Surf Rider", "He Never Came Back", "Hot Line", "The
Swingin' Creeper" and so many other great Ventures contributions. Sure, some
ain't got much reverb, but neither did Mr. Moto.

-Marty,
Lets start a lynching party.
Like I said, Great Musicians, killer songs, just not good
sound.
Kinda like Bob Dylan for me. I don't like Bob, but when other
people do his stuff, I realize what great songs they are.

The Ventures are not a surf band but "The Ventures In Outer Space" has got to be
one of the coolest instro recordings of all time.

Dan,
I know the Ventures are not a surf band.
Go back and slowly re-read what I said.
I like the more Dick Dale/ Astronauts/Jim Messina and the Jesters/
Orginal Surfaris type of sound from the 60's
Ventures just aren't my cup of tea, or can of coke or .. you get my
drift? Not Bad, just not my bag.
No drip = not hip, in my book

Jeff, slowly read this: According to your principles, DD's first recordings
aren't hip. The Shadows aren't hip. The Ventures aren't hip. Los Sraightjackets
aren't hip. The Fireballs aren't hip, etc...man, your'e missing out on a lot of
great twangy instro guitar music...in my book.

-Dan,
Not meant to piss you off, but I read it fast.
Hey Even John Blair say it sounds like Reverb on the first Dick Dale
recording of Misserlou, but it wasn't made yet.
I have lots of cd's and record by all those bands you mentioned.
I've got about 1000 surf cd' and probably 100 45's and about 50
viynl albums. Covering everything from Late 50's Link Wray and
Duane Eddy to modern progressive instro that some don't consider surf
I like it all, but some more than others
take it easy pal, just commenting on what I like. Everybody can't all
dig the same stuff equally.

music...in my book.
