Not really, the bassman has different transformers, which play a big
role in the sound, abnd thus it sounds rather different.
I have used bassman 100's (71 and 75) on occasion, and have a
blackfaced 1970 bassman (2x 6L6), and the last one sounds a lot better
for guitar and, esp for surf, IMHO. also, very available. the 100's
work, but for $350, you could do better.
on a side note, check about tubes and cap job - sometimes you're
better off with paying more for an amp with decent new tubes and a
capjob done, then buying something cheap and having to invest a lot in
a short time.
