"Tube spring" vs. "Geniune Fender" reverb

Richard (errant_jedi) - 27 Oct 2002 15:21:41

Hey, I'm still looking around at midsized amps, mainly
the Hot Rod Deluxe and the Deluxe Reverb. The Deluxe
reverb is less wattage (though I don't know exactly
what difference that makes) and touts "Tube spring"
reverb, the Hot Rod Deluxe is the same size speaker
with "Geniune Fender" reverb. What's the big
difference here? Anybody ever A to B'd these two
amps?

Difference? Headroom: How loud it gets before significant distortion. If you're
looking for surfy, the HR Deluxe is a better choice, and, though the reverb
isn't tube-driven, it still songs very good. My 2 cents.

AND it SOUNDS pretty good too! The HR Deluxe has a lot more headroom and overall
volume than the DRRI. I love the DRRI too, but not for surf.
