B R A V O !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unsteady Freddie (schizofredric) - 05 Jun 2005 21:18:45

yeah BRAVO to the 9th Wave for a blistering set of hot-rod surf music
opening for DICK DALE at 'Toads Place' in New Haven on June 3rd!!!
S M O K I N' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Believe the Blue StingRaye is gonna post an in-depth review
But I just wanna say that I thought The 9th Wave have never
sounded/looked better!!
Got a big thrill when Mike 'Staccato' Rosado asked me to hold his
guitar after the show while the band loaded their equipment off the
stage; Hell, I threw the thing around my neck, and it felt good!
Lucky however it wasn't plugged in!! Thanks Mike for the buzz....
Dick Dale I thought was just great. Amazing show he puts on. Lots
of interesting 'reviews' of this tour have been posted here and other
Yahoo Groups. But, like with Link Wray and the comments being posted
about him before I saw him at BB Kings recently.....the bad hype
didn't match what I witnessed. I was at the foot of the stage for
Dick, and it was just sheer bliss for me. Say what you want, but Mr.
Dale is quite the consummate showman. yeah OK the sexist comments
are ridiculous, but I choose to ignore them (though I suspect it's
probably not an "act"!). Sam Bolle on rapid-fire bass was just
killing me up there too (we spoke at length before and after the show-
--what a great and humble guy he is!!). Vinnie who leads the only
authorized 'Dick Dale Tribute Band' called SURF SQUAD was also on
hand....love that guy!!!! (and apparently so does Dick who was
talking to him from the stage all night and plugging SURF SQUAD as
well).
It was interesting and moving to hear him speak so glowingly about
his Son; he was also quite charged by the Black Eyed Peas record
which has been kicked around in the Yahoo Groups too.
GOD BLESS LINK WRAY AND DICK DALE. My God, at their age, they're
still making credible high-energy music and a damned valiant effort
getting out on the road in grueling city-to-city not-stop tours.
We should be a lot more grateful and a lot less critical.
So, B R A V O to both of these living legends - we are blessed for
what they started, AND, for what they continue to produce. Just
amazing.
And when Dick Dale plays RUMBLE (Link Wray's signature tune) -- well,
for me, it all meshes beautifully.
It doesn't get TWANGIER than that my friends.
I will soon post pictures of these 2 shows on www.reverbsuperb.com so
stay tuned.
