I like it... it's quite clever. The content is a different story all
together. It is catchy at the very least.
my 2 cents,

next time someone asks if one of your bands does vocals, you can
always play this..

I could like this amalgamation of surf guitar and hip hop (or whatever you
call it) if they had the talent and creativity to write their own stuff. I'm
not impressed by theft, though. Anyone can do that.

I agree that it is not very creative, considering the
possibilities. But they just took the riff, looped it
and the "beat" they came up with is familiar to
everyone on this list as a basic surf groove.
And they definitley paid for it... Dick announced
their use on his website. I'm sure if you see him in
concert he will tell you exactly how much got. I
remember hearing him brag about the million he got
from Taco Bell or whatever a few years back.

Yeah, I guess they didn't steal it, they bought it's useage. My mistake. But why
not write a cool sounding surf guitar part instead of buying one? Is this what
modern mainstream music has become? I ask this question in all honesty because I
don't listen to it unless I'm exposed to it in a store or something.

I can see it coming, and you all know it will happen. At the end of our set some
kid is going to come up and say, " Man, you guys are good, I never expected to
here you play Pump It! How come you didn't do the vocals?" LMFAO.
Anyway......... Kudos to Black Eyed Peas for exposing another generation to surf
music ( even if they don't know it!) I am not a fan of rap or hip hop, but I
think this can only do good for the surf genre.
It apparently did some good for DD?

LOL... too late.
I just got the "Pump It" compliment this afternoon. Played a wedding
reception, did Miserlou... and the 12 to 17-year-old set were chanting
"Pump It". Except we had our surf beat, and they tried to dance it
hip hop. Man, does that song get around quick!
I must admit, the group of 40 kids shouting the 'HAAH! HAAA!!!
HAAAAA!!!!!!!' on the intro was pretty cool, LOL.
Ah well... better than getting a request to play "Pulp Fiction".

Monty,
My opinion is that hip hop sucks also, but to each there own. Hip hop seems to
be selling a little better than Surf, so you can see all do not share our
opinion.
However, as far as your statement
" Please don't reply
with your opinion to me, cause I will not give a shit. Good day....."
If you don't give a shit, then why bother posting at all?

I am replying only because I don't give a sh*t that you don't give sh*t...
LOL. I don't care for hip hop at all either, but it is an art even if u
don't think so.

Monty Roach writes:
Why doesn't everyone who complains about hip-hop performers not

Hip-Hop is just another form of music. It is like an artist who does
collages rather than oil paintings or sculptures. The original
material isn't necessarily their own but what they create by cutting
it up & rearranging it is no less art than an oil painting or
sculpture. Is the cover of The Beatles Revolver LP art? I think so...
It does take skill to create Hip-Hop music. The people saying it isn't
music and it takes no skill sound like all the "Squares" complaining
about Rock & Roll in the 1950's to me.
Just my two cents....

Cover bands don't normally sell millions of albums and that is why
people don't complain about it.

Rock bands who do nothing but covers usually don't record them.
It takes a lot more talent to do an oil painting or sculpture than a collage.
I'm sure there's a level of skill involved in making hip hop music. All that
editing must be difficult.
The "squares" who complained about rock'n'roll in the '50's were mostly
concerned about the sexual aspect of it. Yes, there were those who said that
r'n'r was intellectually inferior to other popular forms of music, and they were
right. They are still right.
I contend that anybody with the money and the software can do what the BEP have
done.
Not anybody can write a surf song.

No problem. I may have been a little edgy yesterday when I posted, but no
