Just killing time before the show.
In the morning we spent a great deal of time trying to get to the
Seattle Aquarium only to find that it was closed (after I paid $6
for parking). At least I used the bathroom, but I don't think I got
my money's worth.
We then met up with Dick Messick and TFJ from the Nebulas, who had
somehow found their way downtown via some crazy bus rides. We mostly
wandered around aimlessly killing time. We decided to go to the
Experience Music Project (EMP), and lo and behold we ran into Ran
(Astroglides) and his friend Aliesha (sp). The EMP is ok for a
corporate rock museum. They did have displays on local rock legends
The Sonics, Paul Revere & The Raiders, as well as the Ventures
(although one photo of the Ventures was captioned "Don Wilson and
Don Bogle" - oops). They had a '59 Jazzmaster on display, but no
Showman or reverb tank displays. ;-)
The best part was when we all crowded into a jam booth at EMP, and
with TFJ on drums, Shari on bass, and a floppy light gauge round-
wound humbucker equipped Stratocaster was shared between me, Dick,
and Ran. I played (badly) Bombora, while Dick busted out some
Satan's Pilgrims and Ghastly Ones. Ran got in some good Misirlou
licks. Great fun!
I tried to interest TFJ in a Grateful Dead t-shirt in the gift shop
but he wasn't interested.
The EMP had costumes from Paul Revere & The Raiders on display.
Satan's Pilgrims wore those costumes in the video on their new best
of. That, along with the prominent Ventures, Kingsmen, and Sonics
displays made us both think it was incredibly ironic that Satan's
Pilgrims was just playing down the street (literally) later that
night. They SHOULD be playing at the EMP tonight in a fair and just
world.
Oh well, sorry to blather. Maybe we can get a picture or two posted
late late tonight. Oh crap, my website was shut down. Well maybe I
will upload to the photo area on the Yahoo group site.
Keep those ideas about the comp coming in. I will look into
archive.org, if it is okay with all 33 contributors. I don't know
how that works though, does anyone know? There isn't much info on
archive.org about how you can upload stuff. I think I'm going to
have to temporarily take down the comp so I can post our SP photos
anyway.
Later,

> We then met up with Dick Messick and TFJ from the Nebulas,
Just to clarify, Dick isn't actually in the Nebulas; I worded that
badly. Dick is a super fan, fellow list member, and good friend from
Massachusetts. I understand Dano and Eric from the Nebulas are
currently enroute and hopefully I will see them as well tonight.
