Marty, that makes sense, esp if it's a short c - it's pentatonic,
you're right - I had thought of it more in terms of 'playing chord
notes-riff', much the same as the rest of the song. different
approach, same result of course. in that line of thinking the C would
strike me as odd - but if it was written with the C, i am sure right
since i don't even know the ventures version - it was probably
thought of more as a pentatonic riff then as a 'chordnote riff'.
on a different note, i am not much of a ventures connaisseur, have a
few comps, live in Japan, the tribute cd, and a cd called 'pops in
japan' which has all very tongue in cheeck softpop instro's with
japanese titles. that one is the only one I still play every now and
then.
on a more different note, ... which brings me to the Tiki tiki
bamboos - anyone ever see them? i saw them a few weeks back (with the
infrareds and phantom IV - killer night) for th e first time - now
that is tongue in cheeck - guitarist and drummer dressed in straw
skirts, sandals and Jimi Hendrix Wigs (and nothing else!), girl
bassplayer in a leopard skin cocktaildress ... stage dressed up with
palm trees and flowers, drummer playing songs with plastic bones as
drumsticks, and songintroductions in jabbertalk (sp?) "japanese" ..
all very tongue in cheeck, and normally I odnt get excited about that
stuff, but the tiki tiki bamboos played so good that i'd been deeply
impressed without all the fun stuff - then all of a sudden, it became
a great and humurous show.

-I saw the 2 so. cal. shows they did, and was moved enough to not
only buy their cd, but ask if I coul d give them money, and have them
send me the first cd, when they got back home.
If you see them again, tell them we'd like em back here again next
year, or whenever possible.
