I saw Link on friday in Fairfax. He is a punk, he just
doesn't give a damn, and rocked. The set was pure
rock'n'roll. He was loud, out of tune, and rocked. Did
I mention he rocked? He rocked so hard I forgave his
annoying wife... can you blame her for wanting to be
on stage with that energy? Opening his water bottles,
and pulling the mic out of his face when he played
instros (actually I think she did this so she could
have a mic on her extordinary tambourine playing, as
she often forgot to push the mic back over to Link
when he had to sing. But I don't want to be catty...
but when Link invited John Cippolina's sister onstage
(long story) Mrs. Wray got even more protective...
hsssss...) Did I mention Link rocked? Black leather,
broken strings, soloing in the wrong key. And, I might
add, he looks great, I was really expecting (given his
76 years, one lung and r'n'r lifestyle that he might
arrive in a wheelchair with an oxygen tank. But, man
he rocked. When I saw the Comets (certainly
contemporaries of Link's) a few months back, they
looked a lot healthier, and they rocked and rolled.
Link seemed to be taking cues from his bass player as
to what songs to play, so he didn't repeat any songs
until an hour and 20 minutes into the show. And he
played his version of Springsteen's "Fire", sang it
like he was 22 years old.
As Dave said below,
