The Nebulas Executive order #66 (long and profanity-ridden)

tfj (toofastjim) - 29 May 2005 11:39:01

During the immature flame wars started by mr newbie in the long long ago, The
Nebulas remained relatively neutral and silent, despite irrational and unfounded
attacks on certain list members we consider to be friends. , Even though we
were troubled by the comments, we felt there was no point in acknowledging them,
as it would only prolong Since I have all messages from idiots, wankers &
dickheads filtered out of my email on myriad levels, I had to receive this
tyrade via other means, but after The Nebulas voted unanimously to enact
Executive Order #66 (kill all jedi and evacuate the venue immediately) last
night, the whiny bitch rant was at the very least anticipated. I'm sure there
are some people that may think we're assholes, a few may even be justified in
having that opinion, but fortunately, none of them really amount to a trace
amount of bug feces in the grand scheme of things. Here now is the official
Nebulas response, afterwhich I plan to remain silent. There is no need to get
into a pissing match or bath house sword fight as most people probably don't
care, and certainly shouldn't care.
hey asshole - The Nebulas are not rock stars, nor do we think of ourselves as
such - we don't care about money, our egos or anything like that (this is surf
after all) - we just want to play in front of a few appreciative people -aside
from those that work in the bar or are in other bands - so absent those
criteria, there was no one at that fucking piss palace you booked. As far as
the strange Dave band having to play from 10:15-12 to "make up the time," that's
a crock of shit, as your poster clearly indicated in BIG letters that you would
be playing from 10-12 (with the other bands in footnote-sized type on the side).
With the 8pm band starting at 9:15 to an empty room, if anything, our departure
put your festival back on time, allowing you to play close to the full 2-hour
set you had promised your fans. If there had been 5 or 10 bona fide audience
members in the room at 10, we certainly would have played, but there was not.
As we see it, we did not deprive anyone of seeing a show & if anyone does want
to see us practice, which is what it would have been anyway, we'll gladly piss
on the floor of our own rehearsal space and send out invitations to those who
feel they missed something. While standing outside the club, we saw more people
leaving the venue & saw no one go in - other people walked by and ridiculed the
club - "that's the club that smells like a hamster cage," or "hey honey, how
bout we go to the Apocalypse...hahaha." Again, we would have played if there
were 5 people there that wanted to see us, but since there were not, we do not
feel that our absence affected the outcome of the show one way or another. On a
positive note, our departure ensured that our amps do not smell like hamsters
and that can only be a good thing. From your point of view, you should be glad
- now you only have to share the spoils of the evening with one other band
instead of two - and you both deserve it for playing in that dank pit. It is
because we are not rock stars - and have no desire to achieve such a status -
that allows us to determine that "this gig sucks, there's no one here, we go
now." In our 4-year history, we've sucked it up and played a handful of crappy
gigs with poor attendance (that goes with the territory of playing surf) even as
recently as last week, but this marks only the second time in our career that
extreme ill-promotion and/or unsavory performance conditions have driven us to
bail on a gig, so it is not a decision we take lightly, however in this case it
was entirely justified. The bottom line is that no one there missed us and you
got to play the 2 hour set you promised your fans, so stop exaggerating about
what a great show it was in your self-righteous reviews of your own show sent to
people that did not attend (which would pretty much be everyone you sent it to).
The very few of us that were there know the truth about what a clusterfuck it
really was. Hats off to Squid Pussy for figuring it out ahead of time. I'm
sure they don't think of themselves as rock stars (although we've never met
them), but like us, they do have minimum standards, which to their credit, they
recognized in advance would not be met.
Now let's play a new game - its called shut the fuck up - you start.

I can't understand why you guys wanted to have anything to do with
Rosenberg in the first place. He's a dork and gives surf music (and
surf bands that are associated with him) a dorky reputation.

On a slightly related note we name one of our songs Order 66 after we
saw the movie. Good to know other people are using it.
