Just a quick note re: the Blue Hawaiians.
Last night at the Lava Lounge Hollywood, the Blue Hawaiians
hosted their "we were going to release our new live CD, but
it's not quite ready" party...
Like always, the Hawaiians started late (10:00 pm) and
finished way late (12:30- 1:00 am ???)...the first set
mainly consisted of Blue Hawaiian favorites, peppered with
a few covers and new tunes. After a short intermission,
set two consisted of plenty of "shout-out" requests as well
as for covers and several
psychedelic-improvisational-feedback-driven-surf-lounge-jams...intereseting
stuff indeed!
The Blue Hawaiians organist now includes a a vintage MOOG
synth along with his usual Hammond B3...cool new sounds
from Mars.
The rythym guitar dude was playing a beechen Telecaster
modified with a Jaguar style floating tremolo...nice,nice,
nice.
The Hawaiians played a cool tribute to Link Wray (Jack the
Ripper) and to Velzy, the recently deceased surf board
shaper/innovator (Surfin Tragedy)...they played their
extended and beautiful version of Pipeline/Endless Sleep
(thanks to bigtikijeff's request) and of course, they
played Baja....as well as many, many more...
Visited with several folks from SG101 and
TikiCentral...cool peeps: Ran & his wife, bigtikidudejeff,
johnpaul the photodude and his djarum-clove smokin' lass...
A crazy Blue Hawaiian dancing groupie lady knocked over a
half dozen tropical beverages while dancing on a
table...the pineapple curacao rum broken glass mixture
ended up in my pants and in my girlfriend's shoes...all in
all...a great late night surfari-adventure at the Lava
Lounge!
