I'm the one who originally posted the help with 'the Hearse'
question....I've thought about some of your replies, and some of
you made me feel like my question was stupid. I've thought about
your replies for a full day now, and now I think I should get this
off my chest.....
I have been a member of this group for over a year now, and I
get a great deal of satisfaction from reading and learning about
surf music from the other members..... I also play in a surf band,
and we actually get gigs. I'm not a total beginner when it comes to
surf. I didn't appreciate being made to look like some sort of
rookie/newbie by asking a question about how to play a song. Maybe
Marty feels like this song isn't worth discussing, but his comment
was the worst. Marty, you should google the song, and then play
that tabbed version... It is wrong, wrong wrong.... I was only
looking for some added guidance from some people I regard as
knowledgable in the world of surf guitar....
I got an offline e-mail from Danny Snyder, and he gave me some
helpful info about the song, and he explained it in a nice easy to
handle way. I actually learned something about minor vs magor chords
too! you cant learn that reading tabs that are wrong!
Here it is....Thanks Danny!
"This is from memory, but I just figured this out recently, and
should be pretty close."
Intro: Em/Em/Em/Em
Verse: D/D/Em/Em/D/D/G/G/G/D/G/Em/C/D/Em/Em/Em/Em
Repeat verse 3 times.
I love this song! Like many astronaut songs, the parts are
incredibly
simple, yet the sum total just sounds awesome. That being said, I'm
working on adding a bridge just to give a little more body to the
song. I checked out the link to the tab that was discussed, what was
that guy on when he came up with those chords??? They must be typos
or somehow screwed up with another tab file. When figuring out
chords for surf songs, we're fortunate that 99% of bass parts
consist
of playing the tonic (I) note of the chord, find that, try the third
to determine minor or major, and your on your way.
Thats what I was looking for, some help with a song that has been
giving me a hard time getting right, not a snide comment about how
to google a song title.
Chris
Thanks Chris, I'm glad I was able to give a little back, seeing how
I've gotten so much from reading this group. The reason I wrote you
directly was that I was afraid Red Thundr would see my chord chart and
accuse me of pushing my "opinion" of what chords to play and not giving
you the opportunity to experiment and learn the wrong ones in a new
and creative way....Red, I'm joking of course : )
I personally believe chord charts are more useful than tabs. Not only
does it let you jump right into playing the song, by looking at the
chords and figuring out the lead, you're learning about music theory.
Again, can't get that from tabs. Chord charts also work as a roadmap to
the song that you and your fellow players can arrange and rearrange to
suit your concept of how the song should be played. I often write mine
out just like scoring a song, with bars, repeats, coda's etc...If the
chord is 4 beats long, I'll just write it in a full bar, if it's 2
beats, I'll write 2 chord letters in the bar etc....
Anyway, I enjoy figuring out songs, even ones I don't want to play, so
if anyone out there needs help on one, drop me a line. I'm sure many
others on this group will echo my sentiments.

Sorry Chris,
At the time I mentioned Google I was primarily echoing Phil's suggestion that
many questions that get asked here are quickly answered on a search engine. Many
of those questions are about tabs. I'm sure you're an excellent player and if
you find that tabs on the web are bad, you're probably right.

No offense taken. Chris did ask for help on something specific, and
I'm glad that he did find a resource. I don't see where opinion
factors into a chord chart unless you're spouting off some peculiar
fingerings that you can't justify rationally, and that would bother me.
Chris: Glad to see your question was finally answered; fortunately,
the community made up for some snide, dismissive replies you received
earlier, and that's good to see.
