Hi all,
I got a question regarding string gauge for a Jazzmaster.
I got a MIJ Jazz with SD antiquity 1 and a Mustang bridge, sounds
fantastic.
Although I find the D'Addario round wound 0.52-0.10 set a bit too heavy.
Nice twang but a bit too much for my taste. So what would be a good set
to replace the 0.52-0.10 set with? Any good suggestions out there?
I'm considering flat wound strings as well, I like their sound.
Anyone has any experience with them?
For the moment I'm still saving up for the Fender amp, so once I got
this one I hope to go back to the heavier string, but my Sovtek doesn't
get clean enough with the heavier strings.
Thanks in advance,
Jerry S. from Belgium "The-Ohmmen"
Hey there Jerry,
I would recommend Danelectro Vintage 10's if you want to stay with
roundwounds, or if you want to go for flats, get your hands on some Gibson
Flat Wires. Both string types are pretty tough to find and you usually have
to order them, but both are excellent string sets.

Hi Jerry,
I've got my Jag strung with 12's (flatwounds), and I love them. The Jag has
a shorter scale than a JM so maybe 11's would be comparable. The flatwounds
seem to last a long time, they nail that vintage sound, and no finger
squeaks. Also, they seem to have more tension than roundwounds, which means
they flop around less and thus I could lower my action quite a bit without
fret buzz setting in.
