Hey fellas,
I just wanted to chime in for a second -- I actually own a vintage
Magnatone Typhoon (same as the Tornado but with three pickups). I
have to say that it's a KILLER guitar -- the pickups are almost as hot
as Mosrites, it's got a jag/jm style trem, and a really comfortable
body for playing on. I got mine for something like $275, and it
remains one of the better guitar deals I've gotten.
My one tiny gripe is the bridge... it's set up somewhat like a Mosrite
roller bridge, but the slots aren't very deep, so the strings skip out
a little. I am either going to make some manner of buzzstop-style
piece to keep them pressed against the saddles, or else just cut the
saddles down to hold the strings better. Once I get done with that,
the thing will be a surf machine.
All my best,
~Bill~
