Yep, the queens of the surf-y garage (or was that garage-y surf?)
sound, the Neptunas, will be hittin' the town that knows how to show
them some love! Vegas, baby, Vegas!
Take the force of garage rock icons the Sonics, add some '60s street
racing and the sweet yet tough looks of the Shangri-Las and what do
you get? The Neptunas - four chicks playing three chords who get the
jukejointers a-jiggling.
The Neptunas, heroines of the L.A. underground and one of Music
Connection Magazines Top Ten Unsigned Bands, rip-off the savage best
of '60s surf and garage and '70s punk pop to create an auditory
hallucination of Hot Rod Garage-ageddon. Their frenetic set includes
surf instro and '60s garage rock covers by anti-stars the Sonics and
the Pyramids, as well as original songs describing everything from
tortured teen dragster worship to a sorority where the
extracurricular activities are exceptionally "hands-on".
The Neptunas are made up of four fierce femmes who have been known
to moonlight in other bands - Pamita Neptuna (Cheap Chick), Judita
Neptuna (Betty Blowtorch, Cheap Chick), Catalina-ita Neptuna
(Cameltoe) and playing the part of the Lovely Leslita will be Mia-
ita Neptuna (Hole, Bobsled, Tadpole)! Yeah.. you can't get more punk
rock cred than that. Well, you can, but it will cost you a whole lot
more.
That's right, the show is FREE and did I mention that it's at the
Double Down... so having all your teeth? It's optional!
As the Neptunas themselves say, "Dump the chump and get with the Go
Girls! The moment to fulfill the prophesied chick-rock overthrow has
arrived!"
