SF Vibrolux Reverb

rio452001 - 18 May 2005 19:29:45

I recently acquired an early 70s SFVR.
I had to bring it to an amp tech right away due to a problem, so I
didn't even get a chance to hear it at full bore (it was shipped with
tubes in, they got broken, and speaker was buzzing-- as soon as I
turned it on, I heard a buzz, so I didn't play it, just brought it
in, and sure enough, a piece of glass was caught between the cone &
the frame, but no damage).
Anyway, the amp is sound and everything's okay, but before putting it
back together, my amp tech asked whether I wanted it modded to Black
Face specs.
I usually play my 40 watt Fenders (BF Bassman & Bandmaster) around 6
on the volume scale. I want a relatively clean sound, but with some
breakup when pushing things, but not a saturated distortion or
overdrive... At 6, both the Bassman and bandmaster are almost totally
clean, and I wouldn't mind a little more dirt than I currently get.
So what do you think? Leave the Vibrolux as is, or change it to BF
specs?
My current inclination is to simply leave it and try it out as is,
and then if I want more breakup, bring it back and have it BF'd.
I would appreciate your thoughts, if any.
