Re: Does anyone know "Pressure" by The Pyramids? (Penetration)

Gavin Ehringer (windanseabeachboy) - 17 May 2005 13:52:55

It's funny - I have a Strat with 21 frets and my Pettys Custom Surfmaster with
22. And I
always play the Strat 'til "Penetration," when I switch guitars to pick up an
extra fret. I can
actually get that high "D" note on the Strat by pressing the string down past
the 21st fret
and using the edge of the fretboard as a fret wire. But, not exactly
satisfactory! Of course,
you can also transpose the whole thing up one octave and play it in commencing
on the
high-E string, 10th fret (a good trick for those with Jazzmasters and Strats).

I play that note on my strat all the time - not owning any other
guitar ;-) - by just bending the highest note up a half step upwards.
(bending is a technique derived from 'some other style of music' where
you push up a string along the fret to make for a higher pitch - hope i
don't offend anyone by mentioning bends :-)
just kidding - but the string is flexi enough up there so that you can
do a bend quick enough for it to be hardly noticed as a bend.

-Or just transpose it down and play it in F# like it's supposed
to be played.
I can play it in F# or G. as I sit in with some bands, and
have to know it both ways. Of course bass is easier to do that on.
